Using Amazon’s EC2 to crack the password of WPA-PSK-protected networks takes around 20 minutes and costs about $1.68.

(Amazon charges 28 cents per minute to use its services.)

Right…

I wrote about Katherine Noyes’ credibility back in November, looks like she is at it again. I think all you have to do is look at her article titles to see that she is clearly on Google’s payroll. Keep up the fair and unbiased reporting Katherine!

Nice post from Drew McCormack, seems right on the money as far as the current markets as well as the demo prices of the Mac App Store during Apple’s demo.

A Better List Mode for Stacks

When switching to a side-positioned Dock, one thing I really missed was being able to have my Documents and Downloads stacks in “Fan” mode. Fan mode allows you to view a list of files but also has dragging capability.

Thanks to Onyx, I found a nice hidden preference for Dock which allows you to use a new list which seems to draw inspiration from iOS and also restores dragging ability.

To enable the “new” list mode style open Terminal.app and enter the following commands:

$ defaults write com.apple.dock "use-new-list-stack" -bool true
$ killall Dock

Your dock should restart and any stack using the list mode will be in the new style.

“News Corp. acquired Myspace in 2005 for $580 million. Since then, it has struggled to remain relevant as Facebook’s popularity has soared and it has undergone several rounds of management changes. Myspace had 54.4 million unique U.S. visitors in November, down 15% from a year ago, according to comScore. Ad spending on Myspace was expected to decline 37% last year to $347 million, according to research firm eMarketer.

By contrast, Facebook had 151.7 million unique U.S. visitors in November, up almost 50% from a year ago, according to comScore.”

This article is spot on. webOS offers many great and unique features including their cards metaphor for multitasking, synergy integration with your contact list (with third party developers able to tap into this in webOS 2.0), an extremely great notification system that makes the iPhone’s modal alerts look like child’s play, and a unified messaging application that combines texts and IMs into a single point of contact and allows switching on the fly.

What HP/Palm lacks is still good, quality hardware. I wrote about this over a year ago and nothing has changed. They really need to put out new hardware that is on the same level as the iPhone and Android specs we are seeing today.

HP makes some great hardware and I think they have the capability to become a real contender in the smartphone space — if they can catch the hardware up with the OS.

Pete Goodliffe, you are a life saver.

Really stupid on Apple’s part, the validation process sees no problems with it but it fails validation during submission process.
